The goal of neurological occupational therapy is to promote and maintain the client’s functional ability. In neurological occupational therapy, the focus is on the client’s functional capacity and all of its components. During therapy sessions, clients can practice new strategies and skills that support their daily functioning, as well as reinforce existing ones. Independence is also supported through the use of assistive devices and orthoses (i.e., supportive equipment).
Neurological occupational therapy serves individuals with neurological conditions such as:
- Stroke
- Traumatic brain injury
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Nerve injury
- Spinal cord injury
- Musculoskeletal disorders such as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and fibromyalgia.
Occupational therapy is provided through both inpatient and home visits.
