Amputation rehabilitation

Amputation rehabilitation helps the patient return to normal daily activities and hobbies, as well as supports physical activity.

Through amputation rehabilitation, appropriate rehabilitation methods and assistive devices are identified. If necessary, a home visit is made to assess the need for home modifications. Home environment changes are made to match the patient’s functional capacity.

Phases of amputation rehabilitation

  • Pre-operative
  • Operative
  • Post-operative
  • Prosthesis preparation
  • Phase of learning to use the prosthesis

The success of each phase affects recovery, and the ability to function and move.

Personal activity is important

In rehabilitation, active physiotherapy, progression, early mobilization, and movement training are essential. The patient’s health is promoted by training mobility, balance, and strength.

The role of physiotherapy is to support the patient in the process of change that promotes their mobility, ability to function, and ability to work. The best results are achieved in cooperation with other professionals (doctor, occupational therapist, psychologist) and various service providers (e.g. the company that manufactures the prosthesis).

Amputation rehabilitation provides guidance in the use of proper mobility aids and may also direct patients to disability sports organizations to discover new forms of hobbies.
