How to Access Care

Access to Treatment

At Orton, we treat HUS joint replacement patients.

Starting from April 2026, joint replacement surgeries for HUS patients will be performed either at Orton, Peijas Hospital, Lohja Hospital or Porvoo Hospital. The treatment location is decided by HUS.

As your access to treatment approaches, HUS will contact you and inform you where your treatment will take place.

For questions about the progress of your care or your referrals, you can inquire at HUS: 09 471 735 00.

Referrals for Joint Replacement Surgery

Referrals concerning joint replacement surgery are directed to HUS, where they are also processed.

When is a patient transferred to Orton?

HUS sends patients to Orton from several stages of the care process.

  • Most patients treated in 2026 have visited HUS for an assessment of their need for treatment, after which they are transferred to Orton for care.
  • For some patients, treatment begins with an assessment visit at Orton and proceeds from there to surgery.

In all cases, the patient will receive information from HUS about where the treatment will be carried out.

Joint Replacement Surgery at Orton

In joint replacement surgery, worn or damaged joint surfaces are removed and replaced with an artificial joint. The surgery improves the patient’s functional ability and relieves pain. Joint replacement surgery is most often performed when osteoarthritis has progressed significantly and other treatment options no longer provide sufficient relief.

Care for joint replacement patients at Orton includes comprehensive support throughout the entire care pathway.

Before the surgery, you will receive clear instructions on how to prepare. After the surgery, you will receive comprehensive home-care instructions and support for pain management, so that daily life runs smoothly and rehabilitation proceeds as planned.

We recommend familiarising yourself with the HUS joint replacement patient care pathway, where you can find information about the various stages of examinations and treatment at HUS. The instructions apply particularly to joint replacement surgeries performed at Peijas, but they can also be adapted to procedures at Orton.

Prices

The cost to the patient is the same as the standard HUS customer fees. You can view the customer fees on the HUS website.

Laboratory and imaging examinations are included in the price of the consultation visit.

HUS will send you an invoice approximately two weeks after your treatment or appointment.
