I developed an interest in joint replacement surgery and honed my skills under the excellent supervision of Docent Veijo Vahvanen and Dr Timo Paavilainen at Orton beginning in 1989. In addition to general orthopaedics and surgery for patients with rheumatoid conditions, I am interested in joint replacement surgery for patients with specific problems such as developmental hip disorders of varying degrees and sequelae of congenital hip dislocation. My special interests also include hip and knee replacement revision surgery. I have been responsible for surgical treatment and follow-up relating to orthopaedic issues in patients with haemophilia after Timo Paavilainen retired. My research work has also addressed problems related to joint replacement surgery, as well as long-term outcomes in patients who have undergone surgery.

The knee is highly susceptible to injuries because of its extensive mobility, the high forces to which it is subjected, and the length of the leg bones. Knee ligament and meniscus injuries are common exercise-related problems. Orton is the Finnish expert in musculoskeletal disorders. We are here to help you. The first arthroscopic surgery in Finland was performed at Orton in 1976.
Orton has Finland’s most versatile private pain management clinic, specialising in the treatment of patients with pain. At the pain management clinic, we work out the causes of your pain together with you and identify suitable treatment and rehabilitation methods as well as ways to cope with chronic pain.
