Women who come to have their babies here receive uniquely welcoming care in a homelike environment. Around 870 children are born at our hospital yearly. As a new activity, we provide private childbirth service intended for healthy mothers coming via HYKSin Oy.
We provide all services related to prenatal care, labor and delivery, as well as postpartum care for the mother and postnatal care for the child. We provide appointments with a doctor and a midwife, as well as ultrasound scans, from the early pregnancy onward. We treat private patients by the same principles as we treat the other women giving birth at the South-Carelian Central Hospital. We have one Russian speaking doctor working with us and midwives who speak English. If necessary, we arrange Russian interpretation services for a separate fee. Our maternity care package is presented at the end of this brochure.
The Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) of the World Health Organization (WHO)
We manage childbirth with respect for the values of your family, supporting early, baby-friendly interaction between the mother and the infant. The ward operates in compliance with the Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) of the World Health Organization (WHO). The BFHI aims to create the best possible conditions for breastfeeding and early mother-child interaction.
A homelike environment creates good conditions for the development of the relationship between parents and the child. The starting point of the care is round-the-clock rooming-in, whereby the mother and the infant are kept together, allowing for breastfeeding at the child’s own pace.
Our inpatient ward has rooms for one or two people. Family rooms are available depending on room occupancy. We provide postpartum care for mothers and postnatal care for infants in ward C1. Following a vaginal delivery, a primigravida will generally stay at the hospital for three nights, whereas a multigravida will stay for two nights. After a Cesarean section, you can be discharged in 3–4 days. The length of the treatment period is planned individually, however. Your spouse or support person and the baby’s siblings may visit during the daily visiting hours of 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
If the infant needs treatment in the pediatric ward, the mother has the option of staying in the same room with the baby in the pediatric ward.
