High standards of hygiene are observed throughout Orton. Our single and twin rooms have their own toilets and showers. Room materials have been chosen to prevent the spread of infection. Surgical wounds are covered with modern high-tech dressings. These have been studied scientifically at Orton and found to reduce surgical wound infections. For many years, Orton has paid special attention to preventing the spread of multidrug-resistant bacteria such as MRSA. If you are coming to Orton please read these instructions in advance.
Since 2001, Orton has participated in the National Institute for Health and Welfare’s national SIRO programme for the monitoring of hospital-acquired infections, in the area of joint replacement infections and back infections. This monitoring has allowed Orton to examine its own activities very closely. The rate of serious surgical site infections has been less than 1%.
