The goal of ORTON Gallery is to bring quality art to unusual surroundings – to the everyday lives of healthcare staff and customers. The ORTON cafeteria has been the stage for monthly art exhibitions since October 2001.
The gallery places special emphasis on displaying modern Finnish art. Due to space limitations, the gallery mostly displays paintings, graphic works and photographs, but some of the exhibiting artists have also introduced video installations, performances and sculptures.
The Invalid Foundation’s sculpture park became part of the gallery in 2004 at the instigation of Hannu Siren, the sculptor. The changing collection includes pieces from several well-known sculptors.
Art evokes feelings, brings back memories, prompts discussion, gives pleasure and sometimes even makes us angry. Culture can have a beneficial effect on human health and wholeness. Apart from creating more pleasant surroundings for staff members and customers, the gallery also promotes health.
ORTON Gallery’s exhibitions are supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation and the Finnish Foundation for Visual Arts.
